WWE Backstage News On Santos Escobar's Heel Turn

More on Santos Escobar’s heel turn in WWE

Santos Escobar officially turned his back on the LWO and Rey Mysterio on the November 10 edition of WWE SmackDown, writing the lucha legend off TV with a heinous attack.

Escobar cemented his heel turn by wedging Mysterio’s leg between the ring steps and ring post and delivering a dropkick to it, writing Mysterio off TV so he could undergo surgery. Some had questioned whether this turn was set-up in order to explain Mysterio’s absence, but a report from PWInsider Elite states that it was always part of the plan.

If Rey hadn’t gotten injured, WWE intended to start running the Rey vs. Escobar feud straight away, with the two presumed to be factored into live event showdowns going forward.

Escobar’s turn was a long term slow build, with the former Legado del Fantasma member clearly resenting Mysterio’s United States Championship win in August, with Escobar ‘accidentally’ facilitating Mysterio’s title loss to Logan Paul at Crown Jewel on November 4.

In WWE, Escobar is a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion.
