WWE Backstage Reaction To Cameron Grimes' Release

Cameron Grimes release catches WWE talents off guard

A new report has shed some light on the backstage reaction to the release of (now former) WWE star Cameron Grimes.

Fightful Select noted that the release was unexpected by many in the company for a variety of reasons. It was said that his skill level and track record did not match those of others who were released. Jinder Mahal, Veer, Sanga, Von Wagner, Xyon Quinn and Xia Li were all also recently released.

The report added that Grimes had been with WWE for five years, had gotten over during his run in NXT and seemed to continuously improve in the ring. In addition, he was regularly at WWE television tapings, even if he wasn't always used on them.

The 30-year-old's last WWE match was a quick loss to Bron Breakker on the April 12 edition of SmackDown.

Per Fightful, Grimes (who previously wrestled under the name Trevor Lee and has returned to that moniker) is expected to be offered no shortage of work on the independent scene, with multiple top-level indies already intimating to the outlet that they plan on booking him.

Matt Hardy offered a message of support to Grimes following his release.
