WWE Banned Any Mentions Of Chris Jericho As A Nine-Time Intercontinental Champion Prior To Survivor Series
WWE finally mentioned Chris Jericho last night
At Survivor Series 2023, The Miz challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship in a match that was described as a battle to be called the ‘greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time’. The Miz is an eight-time champion, and Gunther is the longest-reigning ever, so it was billed as a notable clash.
In the lead up to Survivor Series though, if you didn’t know any better you’d perhaps be under the impression that no one in history has won the iconic prize more than The Miz. Finally, at Survivor Series, it was mentioned on commentary that Chris Jericho was the man with the most Intercontinental Title reigns, with nine to his name. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer acknowledged this in a tweet, and revealed that any mention of Chris Jericho as a nine-time champion had been banned before last night.
“They mentioned Jericho as a 9-time IC champion which had been not allowed to be said the past few weeks.”
Gunther would retain the championship against The Miz in a hard-fought match.
