WWE Extreme Rules 2022 Set For October

Extreme Rules is heading to Philadelphia

WWE's October pay-per-view has been set.

The company announced today they will return to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 8, for Extreme Rules. This will be the first pay-per-view in the city since Elimination Chamber in March 2020. Tickets for the event go on sale July 15 at 10 am ET.

Speaking to the Philadelphia Inquirer about the show, Paul Heyman said it was a "litmus test" for WWE.

"It's a litmus test. There's an honesty from the Philadelphia sports fan that comes through, that permeates through the television set when you watch these events on television. There's no BS from a Philadelphia crowd. If they like you, they will reward you and bestow on you an affirmation that is quite - no pun intended - extreme and if they don't like you and don't like what you're presenting, their negative reaction is quite - no pun intended - extreme. You're going to know where you stand when you perform in Philly," Heyman said.

Philadelphia was the home of Extreme Championship Wrestling. Extreme Rules matches became a part of WWE beginning with the first ECW: One Night Stand show in 2005. One Night Stand then became its own pay-per-view for 2007 and 2008 before Extreme Rules entered the WWE calendar in 2009.

The show has been hosted by WWE ever since and last year's pay-per-view was main evented by an Extreme Rules Match for the Universal Championship between champion Roman Reigns and Finn Balor.
