WWE's plans for the John Cena Classic were officially revealed by the man himself in his return on the November 2 episode of Monday Night Raw.

Cena, donning a t-shirt and jorts for his return, announced that December 14 will feature two episodes of Monday Night Raw, with one show airing from Perth, Australia, and the other being a special John Cena Classic edition of Raw from the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Cena then unveiled the John Cena Classic Championship, with the belt being a twist on his WWE Title spinner belt that was active from 2005 until 2013. This came before Cena revealed that he wanted "to show some respect to our loyal fans and that is why the power to vote will live at Club WWE," the membership programme that costs $99 per year and has been at the centre of a fan and internal backlash.

What fans will be able to vote on was not officially confirmed but Cena previously noted while announcing the creation of the John Cena Classic at Backlash 2026 that the John Cena Classic Champion would be determined in a fan vote.

Plans for the show at the time called for it to be built around matches of main roster wrestlers vs. NXT talents and Cena announced on Raw that the first competitor in the John Cena Classic will be Cody Rhodes. The 17-time world champion is set to appear on the November 4 episode of NXT and at Survivor Series where further competitors will be revealed.
