WWE NXT Battleground Results

Everything that happened at WWE NXT Battleground

Going head-to-head with All Elite Wrestling's Double or Nothing pay-per-view, WWE NXT presented the Battleground special from Lowell, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 28.

The show has received plenty of praise and one match marked out for commendation was the main event that saw Massachusetts' own Carmelo Hayes defend the NXT Championship against Bron Breakker. The Big Bad Booty Nephew has impressed since he turned heel after Stand & Deliver but it wasn't Breakker's night as Hayes connected with his Nothing But Net flying legdrop finisher after a spirited contest for the clean victory.

Arguably the match of the night was the Last Man Standing Match between Dijak and Ilja Dragunov, during which both men battered each other with kendo stick after kendo stick shot alongside other weapons and brutal moves. It was Dragunov who scored the victory in the end after he hit a Torpedo Moscow from the steel steps to the back of Dijak's head, sending his skull crashing into a steel chair. Dijak was ultimately unable to answer the 10 count.

A new NXT Women's Champion was also crowned at Battleground as Tiffany Stratton defeated Lyra Valkyria in the tournament final to capture the title. Valkyria's storyline knee injury, courtesy of a kendo stick attack from Cora Jade on the May 23 edition of NXT TV, played heavily into the match and Stratton eventually picked up the win after connecting with the Prettiest Moonsault Ever.

A new faction was formed at Battleground too as Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend helped Noam Dar defeat Dragon Lee to retain the NXT Heritage Cup. Oro Mensah had already linked up with Dar in NXT but he and Nathan Frazer were ejected from ringside after the match was tied at 1-1, but the interference from Jackson and Legend paid dividends for the final fall.

Elsewhere, Ava attacking Ivy Nile distracted The Creed Brothers and provided the opening Gallus needed to defeat their opponents and retain the NXT Tag Team Titles. Wes Lee also emerged victorious from the opener, defeating Joe Gacy and Tyler Bate in a Triple Threat to retain the NXT North American Championship.
