Major implications for NXT TakeOver 36

With NXT TakeOver 36 less than two weeks away, WWE continued to build to the major event and a couple of matches were added to the card during the August 10 edition of NXT.

With Kyle O'Reilly having shown a renewed killer instinct in recent weeks, he went face-to-face with former friend Adam Cole ahead of their third match at NXT TakeOver 36. General Manager William Regal, who served as the moderator, revealed the two men would face off in a Two-Out-Of-Three-Falls Match named The Undisputed Finale and he, Cole and O'Reilly would each choose a stipulation.

After a verbal exchange between the two former friends, O'Reilly selected a straight wrestling match for the first fall as he looked to avenge his loss from The Great American Bash. Cole then selected a Street Fight and the former Undisputed ERA teammates had to be held apart as Regal announced the third fall would be inside a Steel Cage.

Cameron Grimes will also get another shot at the Million Dollar Championship at TakeOver 36 following an intervention from Ted DiBiase. Grimes has been involved in some hilarious skits as LA Knight's butler since The Great American Bash, but DiBiase planted the seeds for The Technical Savage to rediscover himself two weeks ago and that came to the fore on August 10.

LA Knight was in action on the show and he picked up a quick win over Andre Chase. The main bulk of the segment took place after the match, though, as Ted DiBiase headed to the ring and urged Grimes to become the champion he knows he can be. DiBiase then challenged Knight to put the title on the line and the former Eli Drake only agreed after a new stipulation was added to the match. If Knight retains, DiBiase will become his new butler.

Ilja Dragunov also made his presence felt on the show and after a back and forth with Pete Dunne early in the episode, Unbesiegbar squared off with the former NXT United Kingdom Champion in the main event.

Both men had a quality 15-minute match that only came to an end after current NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER made his way onto the stage and distracted Dragunov. Pete Dunne wasn't able to immediately take advantage but he managed to put away Dragunov with a Bitter End soon after.

The Russian wasn't affected by the loss, though, as he managed to fend off a post-match attack from WALTER and The Ring General ended the show on his back following a Torpedo Moskau from his NXT TakeOver 36 opponent.

In other happenings on the show, Sarray's undefeated streak came to an end at the hands of Dakota Kai, Odyssey Jones defeated Trey Baxter to advance to the NXT Breakout Tournament Final, Gigi Dolin overcame Amari Miller and Boa vanquished Drake Maverick.

The blossoming romance between Dexter Lumis and Indi Hartwell continued on the show as well as the new couple went on their first date. The Way did everything in their power to sabotage the date, though, and Johnny Gargano even disguised him as a waiter as he attempted to thwart the relationship. Hartwell quickly saw through Gargano's abysmal disguise, however, and Dexter Lumis ended up with a cake to the face after a brief squabble between Indi and Johnny Wrestling.

Check out the full results below:

  • Dakota Kai def. Sarray
  • LA Knight def. Andre Chase
