NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day Pre-Show

The big news coming out of the pre-show was an appearance from former IMPACT World Champion Eli Drake, now known as LA Knight. The former NWA star has signed with the black and gold brand.

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez def. Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon - Women's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals

Raquel Gonzalez used her power to dominate the opening minutes, but the match went downhill after Dakota Kai tagged in as Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon gained the upper hand and worked over Kai's left knee.

The heel team eventually made a hot tag and Gonzalez once again used her power to gain the upper hand.

Ember Moon was left to fight on alone a short time later after Gonzalez Powerbombed Blackheart into the cage barricade. Moon managed to fight back, though, and she caught Gonzalez with the Eclipse but Kai entered the ring and the official was distracted from counting the pinfall. By the time he did, Gonzalez managed to kick out at two.

Blackheart eventually recovered and she picked up multiple near falls on Gonzalez and Kai but was unable to put either of them away. The Ballsy Badass and Gonzalez eventually went to the top rope and Blackheart hit Sliced Bread but Kai broke up the pin.

Later, the heel team hit an assisted GTK for another near fall but Moon broke up the pin. The former NXT Women's Champion was then put out of commission after she was thrown onto the ramp and flung into the cage barricade by Gonzalez.

With Blackheart isolated, Kai and Gonzalez picked up the win following a One-Arm Powerbomb from Gonzalez.

Johnny Gargano def. Kushida - NXT North American Championship

Austin Theory went missing during The Way's entrance and Johnny Gargano sent Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell to the back to find him.

Both men engaged in mat wrestling in the early going and Kushida tried to lock in the Hoverboard Lock. The pace then quickened and the champion and challenger exchanged counters until Kushida locked in the Gargano Escape and Johnny Wrestling made it to the bottom rope.

Kushida worked over Gargano's left arm moments later after he locked in an Armbar on the outside. He followed up with a Chickenwing Suplex at ringside and continued to work over the arm after rolling the champion into the ring.

Gargano spent time on top after catching Kushida with a DDT and spent the next few minutes working over the six-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion's neck and left arm.

Both men exchanged Pinfall attempts and knocked each other to the mat with simultaneous Clotheslines.

A few minutes later, Kushida almost picked up the win with another Chickenwing Suplex but the champion managed to kick out. Kushida followed up by working over Gargano's left arm some more and he locked in the Hoverboard Lock while Gargano was on the apron.

After being forced to break the hold, Kushida went for a Superplex but Gargano countered into a Twisting Suplex and followed up with a Tornado DDT for a two count.

Both men tried to lock in submissions on the mat and Kushida trapped the champion in the Cross Armbreaker but Gargano countered into a pin for a near fall. They then laid each other out again with simultaneous Clotheslines.

Gargano managed to lock in the Gargano Escape moments later but Kushida countered into the Hoverboard Lock. Gargano escaped into a pin but Kushida countered into a Bridge pin for a close near fall. Both men then grappled some more and Gargano launched Kushida into the middle turnbuckle.

The challenger wasn't stunned for long as he connected with a Chickenwing Suplex into the corner and followed up with a Spanish Fly from the top rope and locked in the Cross Armbreaker. Gargano was so close to tapping but he made it to the bottom rope.

Kushida refused to let go of Gargano's left arm and the action spilled to the outside. The champion eventually got some separation after ramming The Time Splitter into the barricade. The champion then headed to the ramp and Kushida channelled his inner Great Muta and charged down the ramp and caught Gargano with a PK. The challenger then locked in the Hoverboard Lock but Gargano managed to escape.

Johnny TakeOver followed up with One Final Beat on the ramp and hit another one back in the ring for the 1-2-3.

MSK def. Grizzled Young Veterans - Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals

Grizzled Young Veterans took control of the match after Zack Gibson caught Nash Carter with a Clothesline on the outside.

Carter made the hot tag after several minutes and Wes Lee beat down the oxymoron team and hit a Senton over the turnbuckle to the outside. Carter then recovered and MSK had their own spell on top.

Grizzled Young Veterans almost picked up the win a few minutes later after Gibson countered Wes Lee's Springboard Kick with a Running Knee and the British team capitalised with a Helter Skelter and 450 Splash for a near fall.

MSK then hit their trademark Standing Shooting Star Press where Lee pushes Carter. They followed up with a Corkscrew Moonsault from Lee but Drake kicked out.

Gibson got back involved and Grizzled Young Veterans caught Wes Lee with a Doomsday Device-Suicide Dive combination. This left Carter all alone and Gibson connected with a Backstabber for a near fall.

Grizzled Young Veterans then went for Ticket To Mayhem but Wes Lee recovered and blocked the move. Gibson was then tossed out of the ring and MSK connected with their Hart Attack-Blockbuster finisher on James Drake for the victory. Similar to his beloved Liverpool, Zack Gibson's weekend ended in defeat.

Io Shirai def. Mercedes Martinez & Toni Storm - NXT Women's Championship

Mercedes Martinez dominated the opening minutes but Io Shirai caught her with a Missile Dropkick and Running Knees in the corner to halt her momentum. We then had the first multi-woman spot of the match as Shirai locked in the Crossface on Storm while Martinez locked in the Dragon Sleeper on the NXT Women's Champion.

The announce table broke a few minutes later after Toni Storm removed the monitors and the table just collapsed. Shirai then caught her opponents with a Crossbody from the scaffolding at ringside.

The champion couldn't take advantage, though, as Martinez threw her into the steel steps. Martinez then capitalised with a Fisherman Buster on Storm in the ring but the former NXT UK Women's Champion kicked out and connected with Storm Zero for a near fall.

Storm followed up with a Diving Headbutt and went for the cover, only to be hit with a Moonsault by Shirai.

The champion then covered Mercedes Martinez to retain her title.

Finn Balor def. Pete Dunne - NXT Championship

Both men felt each other out in the early going and engaged in mat wrestling. They eventually got to their feet after 5 minutes and Dunne went straight after Balor's jaw with Shoulder Strikes. This allowed The Bruiserweight to take control and he worked over the champion's fingers and left arm.

Balor eventually fought back and worked over Dunne's left knee before both men went toe to toe in the centre of the ring and Balor caught Dunne with a big Clothesline for a near fall.

Balor later targeted the back of Dunne's head and locked in the STF. Dunne escaped after prying back Finn's fingers.

Both men targeted their opponent's injured areas over the next couple of minutes. Balor eventually hit the Shotgun Dropkick and went for the Coup De Grace but Dunne countered into the Triangle Choke. Balor managed to make it to the ropes as he passed out.

Dunne sensed his chance but the referee forced him to break before allowing the match to continue. Dunne then went for Bitter End but Balor reversed into an Abdominal Stretch. They tumbled to the mat and Dunne snapped Balor's fingers again. Dunne then Low Blowed Balor with his own arm and connected with Bitter End for a close near fall.

Dunne hit multiple Double Stomps on Balor's fingers and went for a Powerbomb but Balor countered into a DDT. Both men exchanged reversals before Dunne went for another Bitter End and Balor reversed and hit a Reverse DDT for a two count.

Dunne refused to let go of Balor's fingers after kicking out and both men continued to target the other's injured areas before Balor ripped Dunne's mouthpiece out of his mouth and hit him with a Shotgun Dropkick to the face. The champion followed up with the Coup De Grace and the 1916 DDT for the victory.

After the bell, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch attacked Finn from behind before The Undisputed ERA made the save. Kyle O'Reilly helped Balor to his feet and as they were about to pose to end the show, Adam Cole shockingly Superkicked Finn Balor and then O'Reilly. Roderick Strong just stood in the ring as the show went off the air, unsure of what to do.

The Undisputed ERA civil war is here.
