WWE Officially Announces NXT TakeOver 36 Main Event
The NXT Title will be on the line on August 22
Jul 28, 2021
The build to NXT TakeOver 36 has begun. After announcing Ilya Dragunov vs. WALTER for the UK Championship this past week, NXT has locked in the main event for the event - Karrion Kross vs. Samoa Joe for the NXT Title.
For weeks now tension has been simmering between Kross and Joe, capped off last week when the NXT Champion choked out commissioner William Regal. Then finally, on last night’s edition of NXT, Samoa Joe quit his position on the NXT management team, and convinced Regal to reinstate him to the active roster, and give him a shot at Kross and the title.
Both Kross and Joe are two-time NXT Champions, with Joe last lifting the gold at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in 2016. This will also be Joe’s first match since February 2020, with the Samoan Submission Machine spending most of 2020 out of action with concussion issues,
TakeOver 36 is scheduled to take place at the Capitol Wrestling Center on Sunday August 22, one day after WWE SummerSlam in Las Vegas.
Whilst no other matches have been set for TakeOver so far, several seeds were planted for the event on last night’s NXT, so expect a better idea of a finished card within the next couple of weeks.
