WWE Personnel Reportedly Caught Off Guard By Paul Heyman, Eric Bischoff Ascent To Executive Director Positions
Everyone kept in the dark?
Jun 27, 2019
Judging by the response to Thursday's news that
Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff have been tabbed to run Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live, respectively, as off-camera "Executive Directors", the story truly came out of left field. And it wasn't just fans, critics, and other outsiders taken aback by the news, either.
A
report published by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightfulcites several anonymous talents from inside WWE, who "unanimously" expressed surprise and shock at the news. Any internal discussions about the forthcoming moves had apparently been kept under heavy wraps.
Sapp's report notes several wrestlers who were confused as to why Triple H wasn't put into one of the roles, given his heralded work as senior producer of NXT.
Another response came from a wrestler expressing pessimism at the moves, saying, "Vince is still in charge, so that's all you really need to know." Another countered by saying it couldn't be any worse than how things had been lately.
The initial report noted that both men, despite being showrunners, will still report directly to Vince McMahon, who maintains final say.
