WWE are reportedly planning on counter-programming against All Elite Wrestling on at least two more occasions in 2025.
The ‘sports entertainment’ behemoth have counter-programmed several AEW PPV shows - especially since late 2024 - with NXT’s upcoming Great American Bash on July 12 set to go head-to-head with AEW All In Texas.
AEW President Tony Khan has commented on WWE’s counter-programming practice - a technique they famously used to great effect in their war with NWA/Jim Crockett Promotions in the late 1980s - and on a recent Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez reported that WWE are set to continue this practice through 2025:
“I was told that at this point, and don’t ask me for more details because I don’t have them, but at this point there are at least, I was told, two other instances coming up this year where they plan on doing head-to-head with AEW battles and these long weekends.”
WWE and AEW going head-to-head is nothing new, with the two companies having fought the so-called ‘Wednesday Night Wars’ in the early 2020s, with AEW Dynamite ultimately defeating WWE NXT in the battle.
