WWE Raw Results - August 16, 2021

On the road to SummerSlam

With SummerSlam just around the corner, WWE visited the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas for the go-home edition of Monday Night Raw.

WWE decided to pick up right where they left off last week and Randy Orton headed to the ring to open the show. The Viper was quickly joined by Riddle, who brushed off Orton's RKO from August 9, and they were soon interrupted by AJ Styles. This led to a singles match between The Original Bro and Styles, but to Riddle's disappointment, Orton did not stick around for the match.

Orton's absence ultimately proved costly for Riddle as Omos distracted the former NXT Tag Team Champion down the stretch and Styles capitalised with a Styles Clash for the win.

The 14-time world champion's involvement on Raw didn't end after the opening segment, though, and he went one on one with Omos later in the show. The former basketball player was booked like a monster throughout the short encounter and the match ended in a disqualification after interference from AJ Styles. This left Orton easy prey for a post-match beatdown but Riddle suddenly charged to the ring to make the save which prompted Orton to consent to the reformation of R-K-Bro.

Absolutely delighted by the news, Riddle then challenged Styles and Omos to a Raw Tag Team Title match at SummerSlam and the match was made official for the August 21 pay-per-view.

Raw Women's Champion Nikki A.S.H also had a busy night on August 16 ahead of her Triple Threat Match against Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley at The Biggest Party Of The Summer. A.S.H first went one on one with Rhea Ripley and the champion's record since she captured the gold only got worse as Ripley pinned her clean in the centre of the ring following a Riptide.

Charlotte Flair then attacked Ripley and A.S.H after the match and this led to a tag team bout later in the show as The Almost Superhero teamed with Rhea against Flair and Nia Jax. Unfortunately for Nikki, her night only went from bad to worse as Charlotte picked up the win after she hit Ripley with Natural Selection.

In the main event segment, WWE had the final build for Bobby Lashley vs. Goldberg and the two men went face-to-face. The All Mighty once again vowed to end Goldberg's career as Gage Goldberg watched on. This ultimately drew the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion's ire and he speared Lashley to end Raw standing tall.

Elsewhere on the show, Karrion Kross defeated Jeff Hardy for the second time, Mansoor vanquished Mace, Eva Marie vs. Alexa Bliss was set for SummerSlam, and Drew McIntyre overcame Veer and Shanky in a Handicap Match which means Jinder Mahal's cronies are banned from ringside. The Scottish Warrior is allowed to have his sword at ringside, though.

WWE also teased a split between The Miz and John Morrison as the Most Moist See WWE Superstar was upset that his partner neglected to reveal he was cleared for in-ring action. This resulted in Damian Priest heading to the ring and The Archer Of Infamy quickly defeated The Miz with a Brogue Kick while Sheamus watched on.
