WWE Ref Cam Suffers From Malfunction In Debut At SummerSlam

WWE's new "ref cam" concept had a rough night

WWE introduced a brand new concept during last night’s SummerSlam 2024 premium live event which was seen several times throughout the night. “Ref cam” saw a feed from the referee’s shirt, getting in close and personal with the action inside the ring. It wasn’t always the clearest of pictures nor did it capture the bigger and best moments, but it offered up something very unique and different. It wasn’t entirely smooth sailing though for the ref cam’s debut.

During the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre match at SummerSlam, Special Guest Referee Seth Rollins could be seen removing and discarding the ref cam.

Corey Brennan of Fightful Select was told that the battery pack from the ref cam fell off during the match, and it was Rollins’ call to take it off himself. It was said that there was no heat on Rollins due to the fact that the ref cam falling off was something that was seen as a possibility.

Rollins was of course getting more involved in the match between McIntyre & Punk than other referees would usually, so that could explain why it fell off from him rather than other referees through the show.
