In a tearful video on social media, Cameron Grimes (now back under his Trevor Lee moniker) has announced that he has been released by WWE today.

Within the two-minute video, Grimes acknowledged that he has not been on TV much over the past year but he had been trying his best to improve. He noted his release has only lit a fire within him as pro wrestling is all he has.

"There is going to be no stopping Trevor Lee now, baby. Let me tell you that," he added. With tears in his eyes, Grimes then stated: "This isn't what I wanted to do at all. The WWE is all I've ever wanted to do and be. But If I have to go somewhere else now to show them that they missed out, then that's what I've gotta do."

Cameron Grimes is the seventh talent to be released by WWE since Friday, April 19. Other names to be let go include Jinder Mahal, Veer, Sanga, Von Wagner, Xia Li, and Xyon Quinn.

Grimes signed with WWE in early 2019, making his NXT TV debut that July. He soon established himself as a popular member of the roster and rose to prominence in 2021 through his 'Richest Man in NXT' gimmick that saw him involved in a programme with LA Knight and Ted DiBiase over the Million Dollar Championship. The gimmick was based on Grimes' real-life success investing in Gamestop during the 2021 short squeeze and Dogecoin.

Grimes would later win the NXT North American Championship and he finished up with NXT in November 2022. He disappeared from WWE TV before resurfacing on SmackDown in May 2023. The 30-year-old was hardly used on the main roster, though, and last appeared on SmackDown on April 12, 2024, when he was squashed by Bron Breakker in just over one minute.
