WWE Reportedly Weren't Interested In Using Timothy Thatcher Or Danny Burch On The Main Roster

The pair were released this week

As part of the latest wave of WWE releases this week, NXT talents Timothy Thatcher and Danny Burch were let go, with the thought being that WWE didn’t view them as in-ring talent, due to the releases focusing on NXT staff rather than in-ring competitors.

The pair had been absent from NXT TV since August 2021, subsequently taking on backstage roles in WWE’s developmental brand, and a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has shed more light on the duo’s release:

“Thatcher and Burch’s days were known to be numbered because of the company’s change in philosophy on talent. Both were good wrestlers, and Thatcher was unique in his role as Toothless Timmy, the buddy of Ciampa doing a shooter/hooker/submission expert gimmick. But neither were people the company was interested in for the main roster and when the emphasis of NXT changed from being a third brand built on good matches, more serious storylines and more of a sports feel and developmental, to pure developmental, good wrestlers who weren’t thought to have main roster charisma weren’t going to be kept around.”
