WWE Responds To Reports Of Superstars Being Uncomfortable With Crown Jewel Event
The Saudi Arabia show is going ahead it seems...
Oct 16, 2018
Yesterday it was revealed several WWE Superstars had spoken to
Sports Illustratedto tell of their concerns regarding the Crown Jewel event. The news only compounded what is becoming an increasingly controversial situation after the mainstream media attention WWE's deal with Saudi Arabia has been receiving following the suspected murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
While the questions about Crown Jewel and WWE's dealings with Saudi Arabia are not going away, the company have done their bit to squash any talk of discontent in their ranks about taking part in the show. In what is a very brief statement indeed, WWE told the
New York Post:
“As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers as we continue to monitor the situation."
Despite all of the uproar surrounding the event, Crown Jewel does appear to be going ahead - that is
unless President Donald Trump or the US State Department says otherwise. The event was plugged numerous times during last night's Raw, with the big Universal title match between Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar, plus the tag match between The Brothers of Destruction and D-Generation X taking centre stage throughout.
Interestingly, however, whenever Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Renee Young talked about Crown Jewel, they failed to mention where it is taking place. We know it's happening in three weeks, we know it's available to see on the WWE Network for 9.99, but that's it now - there was no mention of the show's location. Read into that what you will.
