WWE Reveals New World Heavyweight Championship On Raw

First champion to be crowned next month

WWE unveiled a brand new world championship on Monday's episode of Raw, with the first titleholder to be crowned at Night of Champions.

Paul Levesque presided over the reveal of the new World Heavyweight Championship belt. The belt will be assigned to the opposite brand of wherever Undisputed WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns is selected to in the forthcoming Draft.

Levesque said that there needs to be a "fighting champion" on both brands.

Night of Champions takes place on Saturday night, May 27 in Jeddah. It is not currently known how the first champion will be determined, or who will compete for it.

The new World Heavyweight Title marks the first time since 2016 that WWE introduced a new main roster men's world championship, when the Universal Title was made exclusive to Raw at the time. Finn Balor became the belt's first champion, but had to forfeit it a day later due to injury.

Reigns unified the WWE and Universal titles at WrestleMania 38 in 2022, when he won the former belt from Brock Lesnar. Reigns has been Universal champion since August 2020.
