WWE's AJ Styles: I Was Never The Leader Of Bullet Club

Styles was the face of the group from 2014 to 2016

Before joining WWE, AJ Styles had an exceptional run in NJPW and ROH, where ‘The Phenomenal One’ reigned as IWGP Heavyweight Champion as part of Bullet Club.

As the focal point of New Japan, many assumed AJ was Bullet Club leader in the wake of Prince Devitt’s departure, but according to Styles himself in conversation with Wrestling Inc., this was never the case:

“Here we go again. I am going to say this, at no point was AJ Styles ever the leader of The Bullet Club. I never said it, no one ever said it about me that was in our group,” Styles claimed. “Our motto was, ‘we don’t follow anybody.’ Alright, does that clear that up for everyone?”

Despite Styles’ protestations, while he may not have been Bullet Club leader, he was easily the biggest star of the stable at the time, and also, while Styles claims Bullet Club ‘don’t follow anybody’, many fans regarded Karl Anderson as the group’s leader during AJ Styles’ tenure, before Kenny Omega took the mantle in 2016 in the wake of Styles and The Good Brothers leaving for WWE.
