Following the conclusion of his programme with Gunther at SummerSlam, Drew McIntyre formed a new tag team with Matt Riddle. The team picked up two wins over The Viking Raiders, while suffering a loss to The New Day.

The brief team ultimately came to an end following the September 4 episode of Monday Night Raw as Riddle was not brought back to WWE TV after he accused a police officer at JFK airport of sexual assault. This came after officers spoke to Riddle due to him being allegedly intoxicated following a flight.

Riddle was later released on September 22 as part of major post-UFC merger cuts, with the former United States Champion having simply run out of chances in WWE.

Prior to Riddle's release, though, WWE had "significant plans" for his tag team with Drew McIntyre, according to WrestleVotes. A team name of "McRiddle" was even produced and merchandise was designed for the team.

"Prior to his departure from the company, I'm told there were significant plans for a Matt Riddle/Drew McIntyre tag team. So much so, various merchandise items were designed with the team name……. 'McRiddle.' This is not a joke," WrestleVotes tweeted.

Along with being a combination of McIntyre and Riddle, the name is similar to the McGriddle, a breakfast item at McDonald's. The McGriddle consists of bacon, eggs, and American cheese sandwiched between two maple-flavoured pancakes embossed with the McDonald's logo. The item is available in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Turkey, Poland, Japan, Guatemala, the Philippines, and Singapore. It is not available in the United Kingdom.
