WWE Scraps King & Queen Of The Ring PPV

WWE King & Queen of the Ring is out, Night of Champions is in

The King of the Ring tournament seemingly won't be returning in 2023.

WWE suddenly scrapped the King & Queen of the Ring pay-per-view on Thursday night, with the show being replaced by Night of Champions. The new premium live event will still take place on Saturday, May 27 in Saudi Arabia.

2023 will be the first Night of Champions pay-per-view since 2015. That show featured Seth Rollins defending the United States and WWE World Heavyweight titles on the same night. Rollins would lose the United States Championship to John Cena before retaining the world title against Sting in what turned out to be The Icon's final match for six years.

As the name suggests, Night of Champions is built around every WWE championship being defended on the show. The pay-per-view was first introduced in 2007.

According to PWInsider, the decision to rename the next Saudi Arabia pay-per-view was "a creative choice" which allows WWE to bring Night of Champions to an international market. How involved Vince McMahon was in the decision is currently unknown.
