WWE SummerSlam 2022 Results

For the first time in company history, WWE held a pay-per-view without Vince McMahon at the helm and the company presented SummerSlam from Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. 

While the show did not change the status quo within WWE, SummerSlam will be remembered as an entertaining affair that saw the Triple H era of WWE begin.

Bianca Belair (c) def. Becky Lynch - Raw Women's Championship 

One year on from her WWE return in which she defeated Bianca Belair, Becky Lynch challenged The EST of WWE at SummerSlam once again, this time for the Raw Women's Championship. 

Becky Lynch dominated the opening minutes, working over Belair's shoulder, which included a Leg Drop while the Raw Women's Champion was draped over the barricade. Lynch suffered her own shoulder issues soon after, though, with Belair pulling Lynch into the barricade with her trademark hair. 

Later, Lynch tried to apply the Disarm-her but she couldn't lock it in which allowed Belair to escape and the champion managed to connect with a KOD on the outside. Somehow, the challenger managed to get back in the ring at the count of nine. 

Belair went for a second KOD back in the ring and Lynch avoided it, only for Belair to fire back with a Spinebuster. Belair then climbed to the top rope but Lynch used Belair's braid to pull her into the ring before she connected with a Manhandle Slam! 

That looked to be it but Belair managed to get her shoulder up at the very last moment. The champion then followed up with a Spanish Fly from the top rope before she hit a second KOD inside the squared circle to retain her title. 

After the match, a wounded Becky Lynch extended her hand to Bianca Belair and the two competitors shared a hug, signalling the end of their one-year feud. 

As Belair celebrated, though, Bayley's music suddenly filled the arena and The Role Model asked if the Raw Women's Champion remembered her. Io Shirai (now IYO SKY) and Dakota Kai then shockingly returned to WWE, aligning with Bayley, and the new faction advanced to the squared circle, only to have Becky Lynch stand alongside her SummerSlam opponent. 

Having been presented with an obstacle, the heels retreated, waiting to fight another day. 

Logan Paul def. The Miz

In the second match at SummerSlam, Logan Paul faced the man who turned on him at WrestleMania 38 in The Miz in what was the YouTuber's second match of his career. 

Once again, Paul impressed inside the squared circle as he hit an Asai Moonsault, a Blockbuster, a Standing Moonsault, and he even applied a Figure Four Leglock, stealing some of his opponent's offence and possibly paying homage to Ric Flair on the eve of the 16-time world champion's last match. 

Logan Paul had to deal with Ciampa throughout the contest until The Blackheart was ejected from ringside by the referee. Ciampa didn't initially head backstage, though, and he instead sat down before he ate a Phenomenal Forearm from AJ Styles. 

This prompted Logan Paul to channel his own inner Styles and he hit The Miz with a Phenomenal Forearm back in the ring. Paul then upped the ante and he took out The Miz with a huge Frog Splash from the top rope through the announce table! The YouTuber couldn't score the win, however, as Maryse distracted the referee.

The Miz tried to take advantage by decking Paul with a weapon but Logan avoided it and he followed up with a Skull-Crushing Finale to defeat The A-Lister with his own move, earning a big babyface pop from the fans in Nashville in the process. 

Bobby Lashley (c) def. Theory - United States Championship

In a rematch from Money In The Bank, Bobby Lashley defended the United States Championship against Theory. Before the match even got underway, though, Theory attacked his opponent with his Money In The Bank briefcase as the young star did anything he could to get an advantage. 

That advantage didn't last long for the challenger, however, and Bobby Lashley soon dominated the in-ring action, picking up the win after five minutes with a Hurt Lock. 

The Mysterios def. The Judgment Day - No Disqualification Tag Team Match

The feud between The Mysterios and The Judgment Day looked set to end at SummerSlam as the two teams faced off in a No Disqualification Match. Despite the match quite literally having no rules, though, competitors still decided to tag in and out.   

The match featured a number of big moves, including a Superrana and a Baseball Slide with a steel chair from Rey Mysterio. Rhea Ripley, who was at ringside, soon involved herself in the action as she blocked a double 619 attempt from the Mysterios. 

Damian Priest then took out Rey with South Of Heaven before Finn Balor demanded a steel chair. This prompted Edge to make his return to WWE with a Brood entrance and the Rated-R Superstar decked Balor and Priest with Spears before The Mysterios hit The Prince with a Double 619 to pick up the win. 

Pat McAfee def. Happy Corbin

Former roommates Pat McAfee and Happy Corbin went one-on-one in the next match at SummerSlam and McAfee wasted no time in mocking his opponent as a choir serenaded Happy with "bum-ass Corbin" chants during his entrance. Pat McAfee then made his own entrance without 'Seven Nation Army' this time around. 

Pat McAfee dominated the opening minutes but his overconfidence allowed Happy Corbin to fight back and he worked over his former NFL teammate for the next several minutes, with Corbin causing a 'Michael Cole' chant inside Nissan Stadium after he pushed the announcer. 

McAfee dug deep upon seeing his colleague get hurt and he decked Corbin with a Superplex back inside the squared circle. Pat hit a Swanton Bambini to the outside soon after and the official was knocked down in the ring after McAfee avoided an End of Days.

With the referee down, McAfee capitalised with a punt to Corbin's nether regions before the announcer followed up with a Code Red for the 1-2-3! 

Before the next match, Drew McIntyre appeared to hype up his upcoming Undisputed WWE Universal Title match at Clash At The Castle on September 3. McIntyre earned the title shot with a win over Sheamus on Friday's episode of SmackDown. 

The Usos (c) def. The Steet Profits - Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships

While a Street Profits win looked to be on the cards at SummerSlam, Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins failed to capture the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships as The Usos remained at the top of WWE's tag team division. 

Special guest referee Jeff Jarrett asserted his authority early, getting involved with both teams after they refused to obey his five-count. The Usos and The Street Profits then fought back and forth in the early going and the champions hit the first big move, with Jimmy Uso connecting with an Uso Splash for a near fall before the champions followed up with a Double Uso Splash. That time, Montez Ford broke up the pin. 

The Street Profits then came close to winning after Jeff Jarrett accidentally caught a Superkick from Jey Uso and Montez Ford took advantage with a Frog Splash. Ford took an age to make the cover, though, and Jey Uso kicked out. Ford for some reason decided to take out his frustration on Jeff Jarrett but that would come back to haunt the challengers as Montez Ford was decked by The Usos on the outside before the champions flattened Angelo Dawkins with Double Superkicks and a 1-D to retain the gold. 

Following a video package on Charlotte Flair, Riddle suddenly slid into the ring and demanded Seth Rollins come out following The Visionary's brutal attack on the former UFC fighter on Monday Night Raw. Rollins ultimately obliged, outrunning WWE officials, and the former Universal Champion soon gained the upper hand over the medically disqualified Riddle and he decked his originally planned SummerSlam opponent with a Stomp. They reportedly will face off at Clash At The Castle. 

Liv Morgan (c) def. Ronda Rousey – SmackDown Women's Championship

Less than one month after she cashed in her Money In The Bank briefcase to win the gold, Liv Morgan defended her SmackDown Women's Championship against Ronda Rousey. 

Liv Morgan connected with a Codebreaker early before she went for Oblivion but Ronda Rousey avoided it. Morgan then locked in the Rings of Saturn before a Crucifix Pin, only for Ronda to kick out. Rousey then fired back with an Armbar in the ropes and the challenger locked in the Armbar again back in the squared circle as Rousey taunted the crowd. 

Morgan managed to get her foot to the bottom rope as Rousey quickly grew frustrated, locking in the Armbar again. Liv managed to escape a second time, however, as Morgan writhed in pain and WWE's medical officials were asked to check on the SmackDown Women's Champion. 

Morgan demanded to continue, only for Rousey to lock the Armbar in again. Morgan got to her feet, though, and the official counted the 1-2-3 while Rousey's shoulders were on the mat. 

Shenanigans were at play, however, as replays showed Liv Morgan tapped out before the official counted the 1-2-3 but the referee missed it. As a result, an angry Rousey attacked Morgan and the referee after the match, only leaving after WWE officials entered the ring. 

Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez reported the match was meant to be longer but had a lot of time cut due to Logan Paul vs. The Miz going long earlier in the night. 

Roman Reigns (c) def. Brock Lesnar – Last Man Standing Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship 

In the main event, WWE's biggest feud of the past five years culminated at SummerSlam as Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar faced off in a Last Man Standing Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. 

Before the match officially got underway, Brock Lesnar put on a cowboy hat and flannel vest and drove to the ring in a tractor. Lesnar then took the in-ring introductions from the tractor and launched himself from the vehicle, taking out Reigns as the match began. 

It didn't take long for weapons to be used and a Paul Heyman distraction allowed Reigns to put Lesnar through a table with a Samoan Drop. Lesnar got to his feet, only to eat a steel steps shot to the head before he was put through another table with a Rock Bottom. 

In the ring, Reigns hit Lesnar with two Superman Punches and a Spear but Brock made it back to his feet at seven before the champion went for another Spear, only to be halted by Lesnar. Reigns avoided an F5 but he was tossed to the outside, handing the advantage to the challenger. 

The Beast Incarnate proceeded to dominate the action, driving Reigns through a table before he dumped Reigns into the front loader of the tractor and tipped him into the ring. After that, it was time for Suplex City and an F5 before Lesnar locked in a Guillotine. On each occasion, Reigns managed to get to his feet at nine as he desperately clung on to his Undisputed WWE Universal Title reign. 

Lesnar resorted to desperate measures and he got back in the tractor and used the vehicle to move the ring before he used the front loader to legitimately pick up the ring, sending Reigns tumbling out of the squared circle! 

Reigns still made it to his feet and The Usos then interfered in the action, being quickly taken out by Lesnar. The Beast then looked to continue the punishment and Heyman pleaded with his former friend to stop, only to be F5'd through the announce table. 

With a moment to fight back, Reigns decked Lesnar with a Spear and both men made it back to their feet at the count of nine. Theory's music then filled the arena and he decked Reigns with the Money In The Bank briefcase! It looked to be time for a cash-in but Lesnar F5'd the former United States Champion on his own briefcase. 

Lesnar then ate Superkicks from The Usos and a Spear from Reigns but Brock somehow got back to his feet at nine. Reigns then beat Theory with the Money In The Bank briefcase before he pummelled Lesnar over and over again with the case, similar to Steve Austin at WrestleMania 17. 

Next, Reigns used the WWE Title to pummel Lesnar as Michael Cole screamed, "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD COUNT FASTER!" Then, with the Universal Title in hand, Reigns told Lesnar to never come back before he sent him crashing to the floor again with another belt shot to the head. Then, for good measure, The Bloodline buried The Beast under the broken announce table and a pile of steel steps as Lesnar finally failed to make it back to his feet at the count of 10.
