WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio Confirms He Could Retire In 2020

The Master Of The 619 could hang up his mask soon...

On the July 29th episode of Monday Night Raw, Andrade pinned Rey Mysterio in a gauntlet match. El Idolo then proceeded to rip Mysterio's mask off, a great insult to a luchador. On the next two episodes of Raw, Mysterio sought retribution but failed on both occasions. Even being defeated in two straight falls in a two out of three falls match on August 12th.

Following this defeat, Rey did an interview with Charly Caruso in which he considered retirement. He explained that he was insulted by Andrade, but found himself unable to get the revenge he dearly craved. With tears in his eyes, Mysterio went to remove his mask and retire from professional wrestling but was suddenly stopped by his son Dominick, who implored his father to continue wrestling.

Mysterio agreed to his son's wishes, and has since been presented as one of the top stars on Raw. He won a Fatal 5-Way match to become the number one contender for the Universal title, and at Survivor Series faced Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship.

During a recent interview with Sportskeeda, the former World Heavyweight Champion again discussed retirement. He explained that he hopes Dominick will be able to wrestle by the end of 2020, which would lead to them teaming together in a match. After the match, Mysterio would then retire, knowing he had accomplished everything he set out to do in professional wrestling.

Mysterio said: "I'm hoping that my son can be ready by next year. I hope that we can all get the chance to see him in 2020, and I'm just as excited as the fans to see him step into the ring and have an official match, so let's hope that it's next year, by the end of the year 2020.

"I most definitely would love to share the ring properly with him in a tag team match or a three vs. three. I think after that happens, I can retire peacefully and say that getting to share the ring with my son was the best feeling in the world."
