WWE Talent Reviving Old Gimmick

Gimmick change underway for WWE talent

A current WWE talent is planning to bring back their former gimmick.

Imperium had consisted of Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Giovanni Vinci but Kaiser, after months of teases, laid out his longtime tag team partner on the April 22 episode of Monday Night Raw and left Vinci lying after a Shotgun Dropkick while the former Fabian Aichner was draped across the steel steps.

Imperium's split has since been officially confirmed, with Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser being drafted together to Raw, keeping them on the red brand. Giovanni Vinci, meanwhile, was moved to Friday Night SmackDown.

As part of that move, Vinci will bring back his former gimmick as he quickly tweeted, "#Smackdown #VeniVidiVinci" after he was drafted to the blue brand. SmackDown commentator Wade Barrett is particularly excited about the change as he replied: "Let's do this @VinciWWE."

Following the initial Imperium split in 2022 that saw Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser move to the main roster, Fabian Aichner remained in NXT and was repackaged as Giovanni Vinci. He adopted a whole new gimmick as part of the change, portraying a high-class Italian gentleman who drank wine and drove a Ferrari.

Vinci also adopted the catchphrase, "Veni, Vidi, Vinci", a play on the Latin phrase for I came, I saw, I conquered. The change saw Vinci go undefeated on WWE TV until he unsuccessfully challenged for the NXT North American Championship in August 2022. Vinci was then moved to the main roster, reuniting with Imperium at Clash at the Castle.
