Wrestlers on the spookier side have been a part of WWE's televised programming for decades from Papa Shango to The Undertaker to Bray Wyatt to Aleister Black, but the number of darker characters within WWE noticeably dropped on Friday, April 24 after the company carried out roster cuts.

Talents released by WWE in the aftermath of WrestleMania 42 included Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and the Wyatt Sicks, removing a dramatic chunk of the darker gimmicks on WWE TV in the process.

Within a Q&A, PWInsider's Mike Johnson noted that a story being discussed amongst WWE talents was that someone involved with WWE's parent company TKO is not a fan of darker characters. This viewpoint was being blamed for the releases of Black, Vega and the Wyatt Sicks.

It is unknown if TKO legitimately dislikes darker characters, but this point of view has been discussed by numerous people within WWE, PWInsider noted.

Main roster talents released by WWE will become free agents on July 24. People within TNA reportedly believed that the Wyatt Sicks might end up in AEW, but that is not expected to happen. Aleister Black, meanwhile, is not expected to return to All Elite Wrestling following his own WWE release.
