WWE Trying To Push Anti-AEW Narrative Following Collision In Las Vegas

Some in WWE are reportedly pushing an anti-AEW narrative when it comes to attendances

WWE were in Las Vegas last week for the newsworthy and successful WrestleMania 40 Kickoff event which starred names like The Rock, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Triple H, and more. The event was held at the T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and it was a free to the public event, bringing in around 3400 in attendance according to WWE. The number drawn by WWE was higher than that of AEW’s 2473 for Collision on the Saturday night after the press conference, which took place in nearby town Henderson, also in Nevada.

It is noted by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there are some in WWE who are painting a picture of these attendances, pushing an anti-AEW narrative due to Collision bringing in less fans. There are several things to consider though when comparing these two events.

For instance, WWE’s was of course open to the public, had a bunch of media (handily helped along by those who were already in town for the Super Bowl) and The Rock was also there too. Given that AEW’s was a ticketed event in an arena that one media person, according to WON, had never even heard of, it makes sense as to why the numbers were what they were. Meltzer in the Newsletter stated that this was nothing to be majorly proud of and nothing to brag about. He went on to say that he would have expected more to be in the T-Mobile Arena given that it was free.
