Many fans have been craving the introduction of a midcard women’s champion on the WWE main roster for years, and especially since NXT introduced the Women’s North American Championship earlier this year. In the lead-up to Friday Night SmackDown, WWE teased that General Manager Nick Aldis would be making a huge, historic announcement, and it was reported by WrestleVotes that this would be the revelation of a Women’s United States Championship.

On SmackDown, Aldis did in fact unveil the first ever Women’s United States Championship, marking the very first midcard women’s title on the WWE main roster. Aldis noted that this was a brand new chance for the women’s division in WWE to shatter glass ceilings, showcase their talent, and display ruthlessness. It is not a title that will be awarded at random, but instead it will be fought for.

WWE have provided no details as to how or when the inaugural Women’s United States Champion will be crowned. It also isn’t known if this is a SmackDown exclusive title, and whether or not Monday Night RAW will bring in a Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
