Zelina Vega Returns On WWE SmackDown

She was released from the company eight months ago

Eight months following her release from WWE, Zelina Vega returned to the company on Friday night's episode of SmackDown, and has been added to the Women's Money in the Bank ladder match.

In her return appearance, Vega was named to the ladder match by Sonya Deville. The segment was interrupted by Liv Morgan, who again questioned why she hasn't been allowed into the match, despite having beaten match entrant Carmella in an unofficial qualifier last week.

Morgan then defeated Vega in under two minutes.

Vega had been released from WWE on November 13, 2020, due to an apparent breach of contract. The release followed a company edict that all superstars had to shut down their third-party platforms.

Vega tweeted "I support unionization" shortly before news of her release was made public.

Sean Ross Sapp noted on Fightful Select earlier Friday evening, "The plan as of three weeks ago was for Zelina to return to the WWE main roster. ... We aren't able to confirm specific creative plans for Zelina, but were told that as of the time she was added to the roster, the hope was to have her involved by the time Money in the Bank rolled around, and even possibly in the match."
