Professional wrestling changed forever in 2019 as following months of speculation and rumours, All Elite Wrestling was officially launched at the beginning of the year by Tony Khan and The Elite.
The new promotion immediately became the first company to compete with WWE since WCW shuttered in 2001 as AEW presented an alternative side of pro wrestling that had become immensely popular in Ring of Honor, PWG, and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The new promotion still utilised some former WWE stars in high-profile spots for AEW's launch on national TV, though.
