Created back in 1985, King of the Ring has been one of WWE's premier tournaments for much of the past 40 years.

The concept was a regular pay-per-view from 1993 until 2002, helping solidify some of the top stars of the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression eras in particular. King of the Ring was largely ditched after 2002, but the tournament has enjoyed a renaissance with Triple H as head of WWE creative, being used to determine one of the world title matches at SummerSlam since 2024.
