AAA Wrestlers Cleared To Compete At AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door 2024

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 could feature AAA wrestlers

All Elite Wrestling and Lucha Libre AAA have enjoyed a long partnership, but that union was thrown into murky waters when AEW also entered into a working relationship with AAA’s fierce rivals CMLL.

CMLL are expected to play a part in the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door III PPV on June 30, owing to their close relationship with NJPW, and it seemed as though this particular door was closed on AAA. However, per a report from Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW have worked out issues with CMLL meaning that AAA stars could play a part on the show:

“Tony Khan said that they have pretty much worked it out. So, that means that Forbidden Door that RUSH and Fenix and all these guys can appear on it. Money talks, I guess.

“Tony's really been a good partner for New Japan, he’s trying to be a good partner for CMLL and, I guess, CMLL got less stubborn. As far as Forbidden Door goes, it looks like MJF and RUSH is going to be at Forbidden Door and I would presume that Místico and some of the top guys from CMLL will be on that show,” said Meltzer.

The deal was believed to have been smoothed out by Khan and Rocky Romero, with Romero a trusted voice and vital cog in the relationship between AEW, NJPW, and CMLL. Whilst AAA stars could feature on the show, don’t expect them to be in any segments with CMLL talent.

The first indication that things had been fixed came at the June 5 AEW Dynamite tapings, with CMLL stars working on the card, as did Rey Fenix and RUSH. Previously, CMLL and AAA stars could not be booked on the same shows in an effort to keep the peace between AEW and both sets of their Mexican allies.
