Adam Cole Had No Plans Of Doing His 'Bay-Bay' Catchphrase On WWE NXT Debut

Adam Cole has revealed he originally planned to not utilise his 'Adam Cole, Bay-Bay' catchphrase on his NXT debut in order to lean more into his heel character.

Cole debuted alongside Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III, attacking new NXT Champion Drew McIntyre at the close of the show and immediately establishing the trio as a dominant faction at the top of the division. 

The 31-year-old knew he was on to something special when WWE told him they wanted to introduce him to the NXT audience in a different manner than usual, and that he also had no intention of doing the 'Bay-Bay' shout on his first night on the black-and-gold brand. 

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, reflecting on his NXT debut, Cole said: “That whole night was so special. Normally the introduction of a new and important wrestler to NXT was to see them in the audience. 

"When I found out I was going to do something different, and start a new faction, that was so cool. I remember it being very nerve-racking, wondering if the audience would care. Fortunately, they did.

"I had not planned to do my ‘Adam Cole, Bay-Bay!’ that night. I remember getting to the top of the ramp, the crowd was cheering, and I said, ‘Scr*w it.’ I bent down, and everyone shouted it with me. That caught some eyes.

"That whole night, from attacking Drew McIntyre to doing ‘Adam Cole, Bay-Bay!’ with 15,000 people, was the perfect intro."

Cole will be facing former Undisputed Era teammate O'Reilly in an unsanctioned match at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver in two weeks.
