Backstage Reaction To WWE Using Maxxine Dupri's Deceased Brother In Raw Angle

The angle involving Candice LeRae and Maxxine Dupri on the March 11 edition of Monday Night Raw was reportedly not well received by the WWE locker room. 

Maxxine Dupri has been on the receiving end of boos at WWE house shows, with a clip of fans booing the Alpha Academy talent going viral in February. WWE decided to turn the situation into an angle, however, that led to Dupri's deceased brother being mentioned on Raw. 

After Dupri tried to hit a Reverse Caterpillar on Indi Hartwell during a tag team match on Raw, Candice LeRae entered the ring and proceeded to berate Dupri, shouting: "Are you serious? Are you serious right now? You're going to try that on us? You know why people are booing you, right? It's because you don't belong here. Did that hurt your feelings? If you think the internet hates you, you should hear what the girls in the locker room have to say about you. Oh, you gonna cry? It's a good thing your dead brother isn't here to see what an embarrassment you've become."

A stunned Dupri tried to run away but she went headfirst into a kick from Indi Hartwell that allowed The Way to score the victory. 

The angle was heavily criticised on social media and Aaron Varble of SE Scoops noted the angle was not well received within WWE either. 

"I asked around about the whole awkward Candice insulting dead brother angle on RAW this week. I was told, 'It was not received well backstage.' Working to find out more. That is all for now," Varble tweeted.

They later added: "I was also told that 'it wasn't received well by anyone.' So, to clarify, IDK who TF actually thought it was a good idea to put that creative idea on television this week."

Wyatt Zmrzel, Maxxine Dupri's brother, was killed in an automobile accident in 2017 when he was 22 years old. Wyatt relied on car services due to a rare genetic condition and he passed away after his Lyft driver pulled onto the highway straight into a Toyota 4Runner.
