CM Punk A 'Safe Bet' For WWE Return

Latest on CM Punk's WWE return

CM Punk's return to WWE looks to be closer than ever.

The two sides have held talks since WWE infamously fired Punk on his wedding day in 2014, with the two sides having discussed a return in December 2020 and late 2022. They are in talks once again following CM Punk's firing with cause by All Elite Wrestling on September 2 in the aftermath of a backstage altercation with Jack Perry and multiple confrontations with Tony Khan at All In.

Not only are the two sides in talks, but it has been reported that Punk intends to return to WWE

WWE will head to Punk's hometown of Chicago, Illinois for Survivor Series on Saturday, November 25. Both of Punk's returns to AEW came in the Second City and that trend looks set to continue. According to Haus of Wrestling, one WWE source considers it a "safe bet" that Punk will be at Survivor Series.

WWE Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels recently expressed his admiration for Punk but Haus of Wrestling noted the two men have not been in contact, nor has Punk been mentioned in regard to NXT creative. As expected, the belief is Punk will be on the main roster if he does come back to WWE.

During his first run with WWE from 2005 to 2014, CM Punk was a multi-time world champion and cut arguably the most famous promo of the 2010s with his 'Pipe bomb' in 2011.

UPDATE: Despite positive reports, there are still major roadblocks to a CM Punk WWE return.
