Cody Rhodes' First Undisputed WWE Championship Challenger Revealed

Cody Rhodes will put the title on the line at Backlash against...

Cody Rhodes made history at WrestleMania 40 by ending the 1316 day reign of Roman Reigns, becoming the new Undisputed WWE Champion. The upcoming Backlash PLE in Lyon, France will mark the beginning of Rhodes’ rule as the champion, as his first challenger has been officially decided.

After each winning their respective triple threat matches last week, rivals AJ Styles and LA Knight met in a WrestleMania 40 rematch on Friday Night SmackDown last night to determine the number one contender for the Undisputed WWE Championship. It was Styles who picked up the victory this time round, getting his win back. This will mark the first ever one-on-one meeting between the two former Bullet Club members, and it is Styles’ first televised one-on-one match for the WWE Championship since all the way back in January 2019.

Rhodes’ first ever run as world champion in WWE signalled a change in WWE, as the title was renamed officially from the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to just the Undisputed WWE Championship earlier this week. Rhodes and Styles will meet in the ring next week for a contract signing ahead of Backlash 2024.
