Gunther's Next Challenger For The WWE World Heavyweight Title Revealed

Gunther's next challenger for the World Heavyweight Title revealed

A WrestleMania 40 rematch looks set to take place in the near future.

Gunther's next challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship was revealed on Monday Night Raw as 'The Ring General' was interrupted by Sami Zayn. Following a back-and-forth about Intercontinental champions going on to become world champions, Zayn said he now wanted to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Gunther admitted he liked Sami Zayn because he keeps getting up but he rejected Zayn's challenge. This looked to simply be the opening salvo in a rivalry that will continue, however, as Zayn reminded Gunther of his win earlier this year and told the World Heavyweight Champion that he was coming for him.

Sami Zayn is the only wrestler to have defeated Gunther on the WWE main roster, having pinned the Austrian at WrestleMania 40 to win the Intercontinental Title and end Gunther's record reign at 666 days. Zayn remained Intercontinental Champion until dropping the belt to Bron Breakker at SummerSlam.

Gunther, meanwhile, won the King of the Ring after WrestleMania and he captured the World Heavyweight Championship from Damian Priest at SummerSlam. Gunther then successfully defended the title at Bash in Berlin against Randy Orton.
