WWE Planning To Book Major Match Between Gunther & Ilja Dragunov
Gunther vs. Ilja Dragunov planned within WWE
A major World Heavyweight Title match could be on the way.
According to WRKD Wrestling, WWE are planning to hold Gunther vs. Ilja Dragunov in the future. WWE's plans have come together following a series of house show matches between the long-time rivals across Europe. Dragunov unsuccessfully challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title in Rotterdam, Netherlands and twice in Germany in Oberhausen and Frankfurt. Gunther vs. Ilja Dragunov was also a dark match at Friday's SmackDown taping in Berlin.
"WWE has taken notice of the excitement on social media regarding Gunther and Dragunov’s house show match in Germany this week and plans on running the match again in the future," WRKD Wrestling tweeted.
Gunther and Ilja Dragunov first faced each other back in 2015. They had two critically acclaimed matches over the NXT UK Championship in 2020 and 2021, with Dragunov becoming the first man to defeat Gunther in WWE at NXT TakeOver 36.
Gunther has been the World Heavyweight Champion since SummerSlam. He successfully defended the title against Randy Orton in the main event of Bash in Berlin on August 31.
