How Vince McMahon Predicted The Rock Would Be 'One Of The Biggest Things Wrestling Ever Saw'

'He’s gonna be one of the biggest things wrestling ever saw.’

The Godfather has revealed how Vince McMahon predicted The Rock would become one of the biggest all-time stars in WWE.

When The Rock debuted as Rocky Maivia, his white-meat babyface character was quickly hated by the audience. The character was refined, with Rock joining The Nation Of Domination, beginning his ascent up the WWE roster.

Dwayne Johnson would go on to become one of wrestling's all-time bests and is now considered the biggest movie star in Hollywood, and Godfather says the Rock's greatness was correctly predicted by Vince McMahon.

Speaking to Steve Austin on Broken Skull Sessions, Godfather said: "[McMahon] says, ‘Do you know who Dwayne Johnson is?. I did not know who he was. Ron did. Ron was like, ‘Yeah, I know, man.’

"He said, ‘Well, we brought him in as Rocky Maivia.’ I think his name was [Rocky Maivia]? He says, ‘And the people s*** on him.’ He says, ‘This time, I’m gonna put him in The Nation. When I get people to hate this kid.

"When I turn him, he’s gonna be one of the biggest things wrestling ever saw.’ That’s what Vince told us."
