New NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Crowned

A new NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion has been crowned

The National Wrestling Alliance recently celebrated their 76th anniversary, and as seen during the October 1 edition of NWA Powerrr on X/Twitter, a new NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion was crowned at the event.

The title change took place on August 31 in the legendary ECW Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with Thom Latimer defeating EC3 with a pop-up sit-out powerbomb to lift the ‘ten pounds of gold’ for the first time, ending EC3’s reign at the 370 day mark.

With the win, Latimer becomes the 59th (recognised) wrestler to reign as champion since the title’s introduction in 1948. Latimer also becomes the third British wrestler to hold the historic championship, following in the footsteps of Gary Steele, and Nick Aldis.

Latimer has already registered one successful defence of the title since his win, retaining the belt against Bryan Idol at an NWA house show in New York on September 27.

The event aired on tape delay on X/Twitter after NWA Powerrr was removed from The CW app due to the arrival of WWE NXT on the network - also on October 1.
