Report: AEW's Original Plans For All Out 2022 Main Event Revealed

All Elite Wrestling's original plans for the All Out pay-per-view on September 4 have been revealed. 

Following his win over Hangman Page at Double Or Nothing, CM Punk was set to reign as AEW World Champion but he sustained a broken foot on the June 1 episode of Dynamite from jumping into the crowd and he was forced to relinquish the title. Jon Moxley was crowned Interim AEW World Champion at Forbidden Door and after a unification match upon Punk's return, the two competitors clashed for the AEW World Title in the main event of All Out. 

According to Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer, CM Punk was originally scheduled to hold the world title until at least All Out where he would have faced MJF. The third match between Punk and MJF was then reportedly planned for Full Gear but had to be scrapped again after Punk sustained a torn triceps at All Out. The 43-year-old is also suspended after he was involved in a backstage fight with Ace Steel and The Elite. 

"[Tony Khan] put the [interim] championship on him [Jon Moxley] when CM Punk got hurt the first time because he thought [Moxley] was the best guy for the job and the guy to build up Punk before Punk faced MJF. The original plan for Chicago was Punk/MJF but because Punk got hurt and had to win the [unified] championship, they had to delay Punk and MJF. It was going to be for the November pay-per-view [Full Gear] so it's probably Moxley and MJF at Full Gear, most likely," Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. 

Punk may not get to main event another AEW pay-per-view as it is expected he will not return to the promotion following his suspension.
