Report: Triple H "Very Unhappy" About William Regal's WWE NXT Release

It's fair to say William Regal wouldn't have been let go if Triple H had been around at the time

WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque was far from thrilled about William Regal's release earlier this year, according to a new report.

This weekend it was reported that Regal is "effectively done" with AEW, while this morning it was reported that he would be starting back with WWE after the new year.

Fightful Select noted that it is not surprising to see Regal heading back to WWE, since Levesque was "very unhappy" about him being let go in the first place. Levesque and Regal have been close friends since working together for WCW in the mid-90s.

Regal had been working for WWE since 2000, first as an on-screen talent and then as a key member of the developmental system. The former Intercontinental Champion was surprisingly released in early January, while Levesque was at home recovering from the cardiac event he suffered several months prior.

Fightful added that NXT sources had told them that Regal was considered a "lifer" with the third brand, something that Levesque himself had once told the site.

People within WWE are expecting Regal to assume a role similar to the one he previously held, though that has not been confirmed.
