Report: Update On Riho's AEW Status

She hasn't been on Dynamite since March 18, 2020

On December 26 at Stardom Year-End Climax 2020, Riho teamed with AZM in a losing effort against Mayu Iwatani and Starlight Kid. Dave Meltzer reported soon after the inaugural AEW Women's World Champion finished up with Stardom on the show because the Japanese promotion wanted their talent to be exclusive.

Riho, of course, remains under contract with All Elite Wrestling but she hasn't wrestled on Dynamite since March 18, 2020, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That could soon change, though. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW is working to bring Riho back and she could return as early as February.

The pandemic poses multiple problems, however, as Riho would be travelling back and forth between Japan and the United States which would involve her having to quarantine multiple times. She could decide to remain in the US for a longer period, but Meltzer noted this may also be an issue.

When Riho will return to AEW ultimately remains to be seen, but the company hinted the AEW Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament will have a strong Japanese presence.
