AEW Announces Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament

Another tournament is on the way

All Elite Wrestling announced during last night's edition of Dynamite that an AEW Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament is coming soon. The tournament will have 16 participants, but little else was revealed during the announcement.

AEW tweeted: "COMING SOON! AEW Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament! Who will be the number one contender?"

The winner will receive a shot at the AEW Women's World Title. Current champion Hikaru Shida has held the title since defeating Nyla Rose at Double Or Nothing 2020. She has successfully defended the belt on six occasions against the likes of Abadon, Thunder Rosa, Penelope Ford and Big Swole.

AEW's first World Title Eliminator Tournament was held in October and November 2020. Colt Cabana, Sonny Kiss, Wardlow, "Hangman" Adam Page, Kenny Omega, Rey Fenix, Jungle Boy and Penta El Zero M all competed in the tournament. Omega finished on top after defeating his former tag team partner Hangman Page at Full Gear and went on to capture the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley at Winter Is Coming
