Report: WWE NXT's Timothy Thatcher Has A Storyline Injury

WWE just wanted to move Fight Pit 2 to a later date

WWE NXT New Year's Evil featured multiple high profile matches as Raquel Gonzalez defeated Rhea Ripley in a Last Woman Standing Match, Karrion Kross vanquished Damian Priest and Finn Balor retained the NXT Championship against Kyle O'Reilly.

Fight Pit 2 featuring Tommaso Ciampa and Timothy Thatcher was also initially advertised for the episode, but WWE announced ahead of the show that Thatcher had suffered a minor injury and was not medically cleared to compete.

According to PWInsider's Mike Johnson, The British Messiah is not legitimately injured. WWE just decided to delay the match and they gave Thatcher a storyline injury as part of the cover story. The Fight Pit is still scheduled to return in the coming weeks, but the company is yet to lock down a new date for the match.

When Fight Pit 2 does take place, it will be the second bout between Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa. The two men previously faced off at NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2020. Ciampa picked up the win on that occasion with the Willow's Bell.
