Report: WWE Thought Adam Cole Was Staying But "Something Changed"

Is future remains unclear

WWE and Adam Cole have been locked in negotiations over a new contract for the past couple of months but the former NXT Champion's future with the company continues to remain up in the air.

Cole has been under contract with WWE for the last few years, but his deal with the company expired following The Great American Bash in July. Cole agreed to a short-term extension until Friday, August 27 to complete his storyline with Kyle O'Reilly but he and WWE have yet to come to terms on a long-term deal.

According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling Podcast, WWE thought Cole would agree to a new deal, but "something changed."

"With people that I spoke to within WWE, for the longest time the anticipation was that he would re-sign with WWE. Something changed. Now I'm not being told that he's leaving, I'm also not being told that he's signing with WWE," Zarian said.

What exactly "changed" is currently unclear.

Cole met with Vince McMahon a couple of weeks ago and the WWE chairman told the creative team to come up with ideas for the former NXT Champion on the main roster.

If Cole doesn't remain with WWE, many believe he will link up with his friends and girlfriend Britt Baker in All Elite Wrestling.
