Steve Austin Says WrestleMania 40 Appearance Was "Close", Wants To Be At WrestleMania 41

Steve Austin was unable to be at WrestleMania 40

During the WrestleMania 40 Sunday main event between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, the interferences from the likes of The Rock, John Cena, and The Undertaker led to a wild climax to the show. One man was conspicuous by his absence, especially since fans had been heavily expecting him - “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. It was believed that The Undertaker’s spot on the show was originally Austin’s.

Austin appeared on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, and was asked about this supposed planned appearance at WrestleMania 40, to which Austin said it was close to happening.

“Oh, it was close. And they certainly reached out to me and we had conversations, but my wife and I had some things going on that I didn’t need to go to Philly at that time. But I have said — I missed that Mania. And god dang, Philly was a good town for me back in the day and I appreciate those fans. Couldn’t make it down on that one, but WrestleMania this year is in Vegas. And I was doing an interview a while back and I said, ‘Hey man’ — and that’s 400 miles. That’s like right here, where we’re sitting. Right down the road,” Austin said. “But anyway, it’ll be in Vegas, so I hope to be there this year.”

Austin has teased before that he’d be open to appearing at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, but did also note in recent months that when it comes to “one more match”, he believes he has nothing else to prove
