Will Ospreay Returns At NJPW Resurgence, Reveals He Won't Be In G1 Climax 31

Will Ospreay made a shocking return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling at the August 14 Resurgence show. 

The Commonwealth Kingpin hadn't been seen in the promotion since he suffered a legitimate neck injury in May and the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship was vacated. Frustrations with NJPW's office also reportedly prompted Ospreay to fly back to the United Kingdom after he found out about the neck injury, and several foreign talents vowed not to return to Japan until COVID-19 travel restrictions had been lifted.

Now, Ospreay has turned up in the United States and he surprised the fans at The Torch at LA Coliseum during NJPW Resurgence. The Aerial Assassin made an unscheduled appearance at the event and announced he was medically cleared following his neck injury. Ospreay noted he wouldn't be entering G1 Climax 31, though, and cited his disgust at being stripped of the IWGP World Heavyweight Title, especially as Jon Moxley was never stripped of the IWGP United States Championship during the pandemic. 

Ospreay then announced he would not wrestle in Japan until Shingo Takagi was declared an interim champion, after which the United Empire leader produced his own world heavyweight title belt. 

Ospreay plans to defend his title on NJPW Strong, he announced, and he called out several members of the LA Dojo which resulted in Karl Fredericks, Clark Connors and TJP heading to the ring to confront Ospreay. The Commonwealth Kingpin hastily retreated into the crowd, though, to bring the segment to an end.
