Willow Nightingale Wins Vacant CMLL Women's World Championship

Willow Nightingale is the new champion after Stephanie Vaquer's exit

The top title scene in the CMLL women’s division was thrown into disarray earlier this week, as the reigning CMLL Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer signed with WWE, leading to her leaving the promotion and being stripped of the gold (in addition to her being stripped of the CMLL Women’s Tag Team Championships too).

This caused some unrest in CMLL since Vaquer was then going to miss their Fantastica Mania event in conjunction with NJPW this weekend, with her instead making her WWE debut at a Mexican live event on the very same night. CMLL sidestepped and ran a three-way for the vacant gold between Willow Nightingale, Lluvia and Viva Van, which was won by AEW’s Nightingale, which saw her become the champion for the first time in her career. This marks her first world title win in professional wrestling, adding to her collection of title wins from last year which included the AEW TBS Championship and NJPW Strong Women’s Title.

Vaquer won the title in September last year, holding the title for 285 days before it was vacated earlier in the week.
