AEW: Dynamite Results - April 14 2021: Darby Vs. Hardy, Ogogo Debuts

The April 14 edition of AEW: Dynamite ran unopposed on TV (from a rival wrestling promotion) as we bid goodbye to the ‘Wednesday Night Wars’.

The show started with a Young Bucks video package, explaining why they turned on Jon Moxley last week and reunited with their former Bullet Club allies Kenny Omega and The Good Brothers. The Bucks said they had felt content but fraudulent since AEW started, but Don Callis’ words woke them up, and even though they were always the best tag team in the world, they’d lost their edge. The Bucks then cut the tassels off of their gear and said the World needs to see a new Young Bucks.

After the opening video package we heard from an excited Mike Tyson ahead of his stint as guest ring enforcer for tonight’s Dax Harwood vs. Chris Jericho match. Iron Mike was interrupted by MJF who tried to butter Tyson up and turn him against Chris Jericho. Tyson was not in the mood for MJF’s insults, even tearing up and eating a blank cheque that MJF gave to him.

First match of the night saw the ‘new and improved’ Young Bucks put their AEW World Tag Titles on the line against Death Triangle’s Fenix and PAC. The Jacksons came out of the heel’s entranceway, accompanied by Don Callis, and wearing new silver fur lined gear, complete with Dior Air Jordan 1s. The Bucks were arrogant and brash throughout, like the cocky Bucks of PWG and Bullet Club, and their underhanded nature got them the win, hitting a Superkick Party on Fenix after they ripped his mask off.

We then cut to Hangman Page backstage with Alex Marvez and The Dark Order. Page dodged a question about Kenny and The Young Bucks, instead talking about John Silver’s shoulder before abruptly leaving to get some egg rolls.

Marvez then spoke with The Inner Circle and Mike Tyson. Jericho said Inner Circle changed after getting beat down by The Pinnacle, and he called people he had wronged in the past so he could apologise, with Mike Tyson first on the list. Tyson said he’s happy to call Jericho a friend, but he’s going to call tonight’s match down the middle and if Jericho messes up again he may end up getting knocked out.

Next up we had Red Velvet and Jade Cargill finally facing off in singles competition. Velvet was aggressive from the off, but Cargill’s strength put her in control, sending Velvet into the front row with a huge fallaway slam. Cargill wasn’t taking Red Velvet seriously, allowing Velvet to come back into the bout. But it was Cargill’s day, avoiding a top rope moonsault before getting the win with Jaded.

Tony Schiavone spoke with Britt Baker and Reba/Rebel. Baker spoke about the Women’s Division rankings and said she goes up a place in the wake of Red Velvet’s loss, and will continue to work her way to the top of the division until she is champ.

Next up was the in-ring debut of The factory’s Anthony Ogogo, taking on Cole Karter. Commentary hyped up Ogogo’s boxing credentials, with Ogogo getting the quick victory after a single gut punch to Karter, the referee stopping the bout as a result.

We then had a backstage video on Miro. Miro wants to smooth things over with Kip Sabian who he hasn’t seen since the Arcade Anarchy match, but then he changed his tone and said he’s moving on with or without Kip to fulfil his destiny.

Match four of the night saw Dax Harwood and Chris Jericho face off in the first official match between members of The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle. Mike Tyson was there to keep order and did so, preventing Jericho from using a chair, and Harwood from using Floyd the baseball bat. This was an out-and-out brawl, as the two men slugged their way around the ring. Cash Wheeler tried interfering but was attacked by Sammy Guevara, as the rest of The Pinnacle and Inner Circle ran out for huge fight. In the confusion Cash Wheeler went for the bat but got KO’d by Tyson, as Jericho hit the Judas Effect on Harwood for the win. Post-match Jericho officially initiated Tyson into the Inner Circle as an ancillary member.

Alex Marvez was in the parking lot with The Elite. Don Callis told Marvez to leave, and said when The Young Bucks came back into the fold, it wasn’t the end of the story, but merely the beginning. Kenny Omega said none of them have changed, they just got sick of doing what others wanted them to do. Matt Jackson said The Young Bucks are the best team in the world and they are back, and they put the entire tag division on notice. Young Bucks teased superkicking the cameraman, allowing Callis to nail a kick of his own.

Thunder Rosa video package. Rosa said she’s coming for the winner of Shida vs. Conti, and she’s coming for Serena Deeb and the NWA Women’s Title. Rosa wants all the gold.

Kris Statlander then made her long awaited in-ring return, taking on Amber Nova. Statlander was in control throughout, despite Nova landing some strikes. Statlander got the win with the Supernova (package Tombstone piledriver) for the quick win.

Backstage, Dasha Gonzalez spoke to Team Taz. Ricky Starks said they shouldn’t be waiting for Christian Cage to confirm whether he was joining the team or not, but Taz said they should wait, and that Starks should wait backstage as he’s a little combustible. Brian Cage agreed, but Taz interrupted and also told Cage to stay backstage. Taz said himself, Hook, and Powerhouse Hobbs would get an answer from Christian Cage before the end of the night.

Speaking of which, Tony Schiavone was in-ring to speak with Christian Cage. Before Christian could properly get started, Team Taz interrupted him. Taz said he offered Christian an amazing opportunity, yet he got blown off. Taz asked Christian if he is in or out, and Christian said he was going to handle this backstage like a pro. Christian said Team Taz is a dumpster fire and he’s not in AEW to help Taz, he’s in AEW to win championships. Christian then said he’s glad Taz is on three steps so he can speak to him face to face, and told him he would not be joining Team Taz. Taz called him a s***head, and said Christian made the biggest mistake of his life, adding he never liked Christian or ‘his buddy that carried his ass’. Hobbs then got in the ring as he and Christian fought, with Hook distracting Christian long enough for Hobbs to get control and dominate him.

A quick video package on Tay Conti and Hikaru Shida played ahead of their Women’s Title Match next week, as we got ready for the main event.

Matt Hardy came out alone for his title match vowing to get the job done by himself, and he started aggressively, attacking Darby Allin with a chair as the Falls Count Anywhere Match for the TNT Title kicked off. This was a massive fight all around the arena, and as Darby got control of the bout, The Hardy Family Office ran out to attack him. Sting and The Dark Order ran out to even the score, as people were fighting as far as the eye could see. Sting then had Private Party in the ring, as Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page walked out, but alas they were cut off by Lance Archer. Archer and Sting went face to face in the ring, before Archer nailed The Blackout on Isiah Kassidy in front of The Icon.

Back to the competitors, and Hardy and Allin fought their way backstage, with Big Money Matt hitting a leg drop off a ladder through a table for two. Hardy and Allin then fought back to the stage, where Allin wailed on Hardy with Sting’s bat, before hitting a huge Coffin Drop off of a lighting truss onto Hardy through the announce table for the victory.
