AEW's Tony Khan Issues Statement On Lio Rush's Retirement

AEW CEO Tony Khan has wished Lio Rush all the best in his retirement after he announced his decision to step away from professional wrestling.

Rush, who is signed with NJPW, last featured as a surprise entrant in the AEW Double Or Nothing Casino Battle Royal, a match in which he sustained a serious injury.

The former WWE Cruiserweight champion announced on social media his decision to retire from wrestling at the age of 26, citing a desire to spend more time with his young family, while also revealing that AEW had been willing to sign him despite being injured.

Khan has now revealed that Rush reached out to him prior to the announcement and, while the news is 'unexpected', is happy he has made the best decision for him and his family.

In a statement issued on AEW's social media platforms, Khan said: "Lio Rush reached out to me today, and he shared that he’d planned to announce his retirement from pro wrestling tonight. While this news was unexpected, I’m glad that he’s made a choice that he’s confident will make him and his family happy.

"Lio is a great talent, and I enjoyed briefly working with him, and I absolutely wish him the best."
