Athena Breaks Long-Standing ROH Record

Athena reaches incredible ROH milestone

Athena has long been the ace of Ring of Honor, and the ‘Fallen Goddess’ has reaffirmed her credentials after smashing a long-standing ROH record.

On September 15, Athena’s reign as ROH Women’s World Champion reached the 646 day mark, breaking the company record previously held by Samoa Joe who reigned as ROH Men’s World Champion for 645 days from March 2003 until December 2004.

Taking to X/Twitter, Athena posted a video of her championship and wrote the following in recognition of her achievement:

“@Ringofhonor In celebration of #AthenaDay(my day) I may have did a thing yesterday... Maybe I'll make an official statement later as your Longest Reigning #ForeverROHChamp of all time!!! With love and anger Athena”

Athena won the title at Final Battle in December 2022 with a victory over Mercedes Martinez, and has successfully defended the title against the likes of Billie Starkz, Willow Nightingale, and Hikaru Shida amongst others, with Athena’s last defence coming against Queen Aminata at Death Before Dishonor on July 27.

The next record in Athena’s sights will be the one held by Jay Lethal, who stands as the combined longest reigning ROH World Champion with 707 days registered across two reigns. After that, could Athena go on to break The Briscoes’ record of 1,486 days as champions across thirteen reigns with the ROH World Tag Team Championships? We’ll have to wait and see.
